On Strike

This has been a very challenging week or two. Since I recovered from the flu, we had my parents visit and hosted the monthly Family Rosary. I am sure I made it more work than necessary, but it was the first big event in our new home and I wanted it to be great. We gave Dad lots of fix-up projects and Mom shined up the whole place -- and played with the grandbaby.

So, on Tuesday morning Ren quit breastfeeding. She nursed to sleep Monday night and hasn't sucked a drop since. This is quite surprising! Dr. Sears' says it is a breastfeeding "strike." This is a pause where Mom and baby get reconnected. It happens when Mom gets sick (yup), you move (yup), the household gets busy (yup), when their are visitors (yup), AND when the baby is teething (yup, yup, yup).

This is very difficult because she wasn't eating well or drinking well (out of a cup) and drooling like crazy. We tried pain medicine and homeopathic meds and my Dad took a survey of every person with teething children in their recent past to get ideas. Poor Dad, he kept telling me stuff I already knew or had already tried. It is very stressful to have a crying baby in the middle of the night with visitors. They hover over you and offer useless suggestions. Geez.

We'll see how it goes...
