Some assembly required.

Whew! We made it through the first little girl birthday party. As a wise friend told me, the first birthday is more of a commemoration to the parents' survival than to the annual milestone for the child. If you are celebrating a first birthday this month - way to go!

We are grateful to our friends and church community who joined in the fun (and a great game of kickball!)

As with first birthdays comes the first assembly of toys. We asked for a wagon on Ren's behalf for her first birthday. Our new home is near a park, so what greater fun is it than load the kiddo and a picnic into a wagon and head off to the park. (Same park as the above photos).

We purchased a garden wagon - needing it to be multi-purpose - from Lowe's. It came in a box. You can only imagine the joy in having to assemble a garden wagon. I laughed outloud when a direction included locating the "welder's bushing." Should I blush? Should I avert my eyes from the "welder's bushing"? I can sometimes identify a welder. I can definitely identify a bush. Not sure what it would look like if one were "bushing" (to bush?) Anyway, I assumed it was some metal part and figured if I put it together backwards (which I did in several places, by the way), I would then know what a welder's bushing was.

Welders beware! Your bushings are out! They are being shown in public.

That was the only assembly this year. And it was self-imposed. To there credit, Lowe's was quite willing to put it together for me if I could pick it up the next day. Note to self - Have Lowe's do it.

In the end, we had a super birthday and have celebrated two other firsts this week (yesterday actually). The biggest surprise for me was the "after first birthday exhaustion hangover" that I felt. And I didn't even have a big shindig! I was totally worn out. The baby is 367 (leap year - remember) days old and I feel like I was hit by a 367 ton truck. Note to self - take vitamins on the first birthday.

Also, because the first birthday overshadowed it, Happy Father's Day!
Also also, in case I miss it, Happy Independence Day. We live in a great country.
