Efforts

This month I have made two efforts in regards to my power as a consumer and player in the market of commerce.

First, I am trying to not by cheap plastic stuff new. I will search thrift stores, ask friends, look on Craig's List, etc. For example, I am seeking a booster type seat with an eating tray. Ren will soon wander into the world of solids and a high chair might explode our little place. I hunted in thrift stores and consignment stores - nada. Next I sent an email to other moms I know and have had at least one reply with a maybe. That is awesome.

Second, I am trying to not buy fresh fruits and vegies that are not from the USA. To be honest, I am not that much of a patriot to say "buy American" because my blood runs red, white, and blue. I do want the sky to stay blue, my accounts to stay out of the red, and the appropriate fruits to have flesh that is white. During the winter, it is common to find a lot of fruits and vegetables from Mexico. Standards aside, it takes a lot of gas to go from south of the border to almost Canada. If my saying "no thanks" and buying frozen can help that...then so be it.

As a product of apple country, I will say that I continue to by apples because they stay in cold storage a long time and come from adjacent states.

Happy shopping!
