Lent 2012

We started with the letters and the Rice Bowl.

We crafted paper cups for offerings.

BUT THEN we went to daily mass the first week of Lent and our Lenten journey became clear! Reflecting on the gospel from Matthew, we asked: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?' What does that mean to us and what does it mean to a 4 year old? I knew resources for the hungry, thirsty, naked and probably sick...but prisoners? (Ok, in my poor recollection, I forgot the stranger entirely, but now that I see it again, I'll work on that.)

Luckily, our parish has a prison ministry and one of the participants prays for the prisoners during the Prayers of the Faithful. I cornered him at coffee hour so see what we could do. He replied that our parish has a specific section of the a men's prison and a women's prison that we minister to and pray for. They also pray for us. Upon further inquiry, he mentioned that they would like to have calenders and maybe cards. Great! We will pray and make a craft. Totally doable for the Mom & kids. Beyond that, I feel so much more empowered to know someone who ministers to the prisoners and whom I can ask periodically regarding needs. God is so good.

So....

We wrote out those whom Christ desires that we reach out to and found pictures in magazines of what having their needs met looks like (food, clothing, caregivers, etc.).

For the prisoners. No last names, of course.
