Today I am going to the Boise Public Library! (the exclamation mark is actually on the lighted sign on the building) to get new kids books.

I am returning some that I have really enjoyed:
Can You Say Peace? by Karen Katz. World Peace Day is September 21 and this wonderfully colorful book shows how children in different countries say "Peace". Emily in America says "Peace." Hana in Iran says "Sohl" Sadiki in Ghana says "Goom-jigi." Katz even helps you to pronounce the words correctly and has a world map at the end.
Song of the Flowers by Takayo Noda. Noda is such an amazing artist! I never realized the phenomenal art in children's books! Wow! The flowers ask their surroundings (clouds, bugs, stream) to sing them a lullaby to "lull me oh-so-soft to sleep tonight." The colors are amazing and text easily adaptable to music.
Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss. I had forgotten this book. It is a tongue twister that made me laugh out loud! Great play on words with nifty seuss-ian pictures.
Beasty Bath by Robert Neubecker. I was suspect of this book, but it is a fun go to sleep book. The child is getting ready for bed and has a vivid imagination that she is a beast with 33 legs, fur, scales, fangs, and other funny beastly parts that all get scrubbed in the tub. Then, as she drifts to sleep amid a pile of stuffed animal buddies, she rests in the land of these creative creatures. I especially like how the mom and dad figure are there to dry her off and tuck her in.
Read-aloud Bible Stories (Vol 3). by Ella K Lindvall. Ill by H. Kent Puckett. This series has 4 volumes and I am sad that we are 3/4 of the way through it. These very simple Bible stories are accompanied by simple and vivid pictures. This volume as the Creation Store ("How God Made the World"), "Noah's Big Boat," the story of God providing manna in the desert ("God Gives His People Bread to Eat"), "Daniel and the Lions", and finally the nativity. The Nativity story has this amazing picture of the heavens filled with the angels singing and the shepherds surrounded by crazy numbers of sheep looking up amazed. Very cool.
So, bye-bye old books and howdy to new books.
